Achieving Your Ideal Weight

On May 21, 2011, in FitTrend, Motivation, by FitTrend

I have been using FitTrend for many years and there are times when I was dilligent on regularly recording my weight and other times where I wasn’t.

Starting in 2002, I pushed myself into a running schedule and stuck to it. I had a good few years of success. But then life got busy with family, career, and a shift in hobbies. I began to slip and fell into old habits.

Weight Management is about how many calories you consume. One pound is roughly 3500 calories. Increasing or decreasing your caloric intake by +/- 500 a day will allow you to alter your weight by 1 pound a week. However, if you alter your weight too quickly, it can lead to health issues. It is recommended that you aim to lose no more than 1 to 2 pounds a week.

A lot of people try and fail to gain or lose weight. And some of those that do achieve their weight goals, fall into old patterns and either gain or lose all that weight back. That’s why its also important to modify your behavior to maintain those healthy habits even after you obtain your goal.

Before you begin, educated yourself and do some research. Here are some helpful tips to get started:

  • Determine roughly how many calories you need a day
  • Keep a daily journal of what you eat and how many calories you are consuming without altering your diet for 1 week
  • Review your eating habits and visit websites like Healthy Cooking and learn about making smart choices to benefit your overall health
  • Get regular physical exercise with activities that you enjoy, and record your progress in a journal
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Don’t make too many changes at once. By doing so, you may quickly become frustrated and give up

Making any change to your lifestyle is hard. But if you put in the effort and stick with it, the rewards will be well worth it.

I’m happy that I’ve found an activity that I do enjoy. Not only does it help maintain a healthy weight, I feel great. I hope that I can continue to benefit from the choices that I’ve made. I wish all of you good luck in your journey to a better you.
